The Tea Issue

Ginger Tea - Cinnamon Apple Tea

If this was a print magazine, I’d call this the Tea Issue. I’d spend months researching the wonders of tea and the mystery behind this centuries-old drink.

But this is just my little blog, so here is my honest view and opinion of tea.

I first discovered tea through my grandmother, who used to drink tea like a lady, using cloth napkins, milk and a pretty cup with a saucer.

And then there was Dad’s love of tea. My dad swore that certain kinds of teas would help him sleep better, while others could soothe an upset stomach.

Back then, to me, a cup of tea was just another cup of tea and an opportunity to have cookies, too. But now I find comfort from a delicious cup of hot tea,  especially on those days when I’m not feeling great.

I make ginger tea for an upset stomach, and you know what? It does the trick.

Chamomile tea calms the nerves.

Cinnamon and apple teas warm me up when it is much too cold outside and when I’m sick with the sniffles.

Sometimes I drink simple black tea with milk. I think of my grandmother then.

I have to admit that, even though I have a long love affair with coffee, tea has a special place in my heart as well. Every time I curl up on my leather couch in my living room with a cup of hot tea, it brings back great memories.

 

Ginger Tea

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 12 thin slices fresh ginger
  • 3 cups water
  • Honey (optional)

In a medium saucepan boil the ginger in water for at least 20 minutes over medium heat. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes.  Strain out ginger slices, pour into cups, sweeten with honey.

Makes 2 cups

 

Apple Cinnamon Tea

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 1 medium apple, finely chopped
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 cups water

 

In a medium saucepan boil the apple and cinnamon sticks in water for at least 15 minutes over medium heat. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes.  Strain out apple and cinnamon sticks, pour into cups.

Makes 2 cups
