We are Farmer’s Market lovers. Almost every Saturday from October until the end of May, the Farmer’s Market is on top of our list of things to do. We recently discovered a new Farmer’s Market near us on Thursday afternoon and of course, we had to go.
We found a Fry Bread vendor with the most tasty fried bread. That made me come home and look for an old fried bread recipe I had in my recipe binder. So here it is. Make it and tell me what you think. Enjoy!
Frybread
Ingredients:
- 3 cups Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup all purpose flour + extra to form the bread
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon powdered buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup water
Preheat oil in a deep-fryer to 350 degrees F.
Blend the flour, salt, powdered buttermilk, and baking powder in a large bowl.
Add the water over the flour mixture, while adding the water stir with a fork until the dough comes together. Then using hands mix well but do not knead the dough. The dough will be sticky.
Flour your hands and cut into four pieces. Using your floured hands, shape, stretch, and form a disk of about 5 inches in diameter. Fry breads one at a time until golden on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
Serves: 4
My notes:
If you don’t have powdered buttermilk you can use powdered milk instead.
